Flat Jake Project

Earlier this year, Ashley and I received a letter from her little brother's teacher asking us to participate in a project of theirs based on the Flat Stanley children's story, where a boy gets flattened and is mailed to family in another state to visit for a few weeks and is mailed back with photos and memories of his trip. So we got Flat Jake in the mail, and took him around the Denver metro area.

First, we picked Flat Jake up at the airport.









We took Flat Jake back home to our house in Broomfield.





I decided to take Flat Jake to my work at the Boulder Police Department. With the help of one of our tallest officers Ben Graff, we took him around my office.

We next showed Flat Jake one of the Boulder PD's SWAT vehicles. This one is called the Peacekeeper.







Of course then Flat Jake wanted to go on a ride-a-long with Ofc. Ben Graff.





After a long night, Flat Jake almost fell off the counter behind the front desk. Thanks to Ofc. Graff for his quick thinking to save Flat Jake!







We then took Flat Jake to downtown Denver to show him the sights, starting with Coors Field where the Colorado Rockies play.



Then the Convention Center where there is a large blue bear looking in on what's going on inside.

The 16th Street Mall is a pedestrian only mall in downtown Denver. There is a place where people can go play chess or checkers if they so choose.

Early February brought a heavy snowstorm to the Denver area. Thankfully Flat Jake is from Michigan so he knows a thing or two about cold weather!

We then took Flat Jake to see a Denver Nuggets game at the Pepsi Center.







Flat Jake was able to sneak down to the court after the game was over.



Next up was a trip to Boulder. First stop, the Pearl Street Mall.







A great place to eat on Pearl Street is a Pasta Jay's.



Next we took Flat Jake to the University of Colorado campus in Boulder.










On his final day, we took Flat Jake to the infamous Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, where many famous bands have played.









Our final stop was the city of Golden, home to the Coors Brewery.









We had a fun time working on the Flat Jake project. We hope he had fun visiting us in the Mile High City!
